This cartoon by Dave Brown from The Independent shows Obama with a can of paint, which makes the V sign for victory. He just sprayed it slogan "Long live an orderly transition" on the side of a tank destroyed in the shape of the siege Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. A crowd of protesters waving placards in the background.
The cartoon illustrates the ambivalent attitude of the United States to the revolt in Egypt. In fact, U.S. policy has been for decades to help protect "moderate Arab regimes, like that of Mubarak in Egypt (it Note that the tank was "Made in USA"). Although these schemes were dicatorships, have provided a bulwark against the rising tide of Islamic fundamentalism. On the other hand, America likes to see himself as a promoter of democracy around the world (remember Iraq?), Then can not really complain when the people rebel against a system brutale.Il best the U.S. can hope, therefore, is' an orderly transition to a pro-Western democracy. This is exactly what the Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton asked.
